Tip: How to measure a lock backset – Life Unlocked

For certain Klevio installations, our customers may need to provide our installers with certain measurements that pertain to their current lock. In our latest support video, our installer Farhan shows you how to correctly measure the backset of a lock.

The backset of a lock is the distance between the edge of the lock and the center of its cylinder.

This definition is true for all different kinds of locks – in our latest support video, our installer Farhan demonstrates this with a multi-point lock.

To measure the backset of your lock, all you’ll need is a ruler or tape measure. When measuring, be mindful if the edge of your lock actually coincides with the edge of your door. If that’s the case, then you simply need to measure the distance between the edge of the door and the center of the lock cylinder.

Position one side of your ruler to the edge of the door and then measure the point where the ruler lines up with the center of the cylinder.
